CFR is sad to announce that due to funding cuts, our Health Care Access Program (HCAP) has ended as of July 31, 2019. Over the past five and a half years, CFR enrolled 7,211 New Yorkers for health insurance through the New York State Marketplace, and educated retail workers in our membership about health insurance.
Under the Trump administration, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have reduced funding for navigator grants by 80% for the upcoming open enrollment period. We are saddened by the loss of this program, and that we can no longer provide these essential services to workers. It has been an honor to have worked with retail workers across NYC, Yonkers, and Mineola.
Although HCAP is no more, workers still need affordable health insurance. We need to defend retail workers’ health and safety now more than ever. CFR will continue fighting for retail workers’ right to affordable health insurance, and looks forward to joining together with our members and allies in that fight.
CFR is grateful to Debbra and Esmeralda, and past HCAP staff members Lizbeth, Flor, Troy, and Katherine. Their hard work empowered thousands of New Yorkers, and made a big difference in those clients’ lives.
